We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Ethan, a distinguished participant in our esteemed Pre-ETS program.


Ethan is currently in the second week of his Shielded Metal Arc Welding course at a local community class.  He recently participated in a class contest where participants were challenged to weld two bars to replicate a precise model. Ethan's exceptional craftsmanship shone through, earning him the well-deserved distinction of first place. As the victor, Ethan was awarded his very own DeWalt Grinder!


As Ethan nears the culmination of his course, we are thrilled to share that he has secured a position in a paid apprentice program, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his professional journey. Furthermore, we are delighted to announce that Ethan's will then transition into the realm of adult Vocational Rehabilitation services.

Sam Evans’ Journey into Auto Detailing

Since October 2024, The Choice Group has had the pleasure of working with Sam Evans—a friendly, professional, and driven individual who recently set his sights on a career change. After seven years with his current employer, Sam expressed interest in exploring new possibilities, and one area that sparked his curiosity was auto detailing. Although Sam had no prior experience in the field, he was eager to jump in and give it a try. Through situational assessment services, he recently completed a hands-on experience at Xtreme Detailing in Virginia Beach. There, he took on the full process of exterior car cleaning—prepping, spraying, scrubbing, and drying a vehicle from start to finish. The owner was impressed and commended Sam on a job well done. That’s exactly the story of Tito Woods, a longstanding client of The Choice Group who recently celebrated 30 years on the job. Tito began his career journey right out of high school with the support of a DARS counselor in Danville. He was hired to work in the cafeteria at a local hospital in Eden, North Carolina—a role that would evolve over time but always remain rooted in his commitment to showing up, working hard, and doing his part to support the team.   Real-world exposure is one of the best ways for students to explore potential careers. Work-Based Learning Experiences (WBLEs) provide students with hands-on opportunities to learn from professionals in their desired fields. Recently, one student with a passion for graphic design and distribution had the chance to go behind the scenes of one of the largest tie-dye and graphic t-shirt distributors in the United States—a company that produces designs for Disney, SeaWorld, Universal Studios, Fortune 500 companies like Coca-Cola, and legendary rock bands like The Grateful Dead and AC/DC. During the tour, the student asked insightful questions about how intricate digital artwork is transferred onto shirts, how high production demands are met, and how the facility operates day-to-day.
